U.S. Ambassador to Libya encourages women to participate in the upcoming elections.

   Tripoli, 24 November 2021 (Lana) U.S. Ambassador and Special Envoy to Libya Richard Norland met yesterday with Libyan women leaders from the Quota holders, to represent women in leadership positions by 30%, to discuss ways to promote women's participation in Libya's political life as elected officials and as incumbents for sovereign positions.

According to the embassy's website, participants explained their efforts, through a coalition of civil society organizations across Libya, to increase women's participation through advocacy work with decision makers and communication with the public.

The U.S. Embassy praised the successes achieved by the coalition of civil society organizations so far, which have been reflected in the road map of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum, joint statements supporting women in sovereign positions, pledges by candidates to support a 30% quota and appointment of first female ministers in the Ministries of Justice and Foreign Affairs. Ambassador Norland encouraged women to fully participate in the upcoming elections so that their voices could be heard.
