President of Presidential Council stresses that Libya was and still one of the biggest supporters of development and prosperity in the African continent.

 Cairo, 23 November, 2021 (Lana) - The President of the Presidential Council, Mohamed Al-Manfi stressed that the problem of illegal immigration has exhausted the world and Libya as a transit country, and that preventing the waves of migrants from meeting the waves of the Mediterranean is purely a political fantasy, as long as economic conditions in migration source countries, still do not meet the simplest requirements for a decent life for millions of people.

In his speech at the COMESA summit in Cairo, Al-Manafi called on the European Union, its members and economic organizations to play a larger and more positive role in cooperation with the COMESA Organization and the African Union, to work on establishing sustainable economic development that accommodates and meets the aspirations of the continent’s youth, and ensures their future in their homelands.

Al-Manafi also called on COMESA General Secretariat and Member States to complete the organizational structures and logistical and technical procedures, which ensure the smooth flow of goods within the scope of COMESA, calling for a more integrated role in the field of food production, and the development of agricultural and production methods, through joint scientific and technical cooperation, between industrial and agricultural research centers wihtin COMESA countries, to create sustainable food security in the region.

The President of the Presidential Council stressed that Libya was and is still is one of the biggest supporters of development and prosperity in the African continent, and in building African institutions, especially the African Union and COMESA.

He added, “In Libya, we aspire that the COMESA member states contribute to enhancing security and economic stability, as Libya’s political, security and economic stability will enable it to playing its vital role in supporting and adopting African economic initiatives, and actively engaging in the common market programmes of countries,of east and south of the continent.

In his speech, the President also valued the efforts made by the COMESA countries to confront the emerging corona virus in the member states, through coordination with the African Center for Diseases Control, calling for more joint action to confront the waves of the epidemic that began again to cast a shadow on the international health and economic scene.
