Al-Mashri and head of UNSMIL discuss political situation and latest developments of electoral process.

 Tripoli, 26 October, 2021 (Lana) - Head of the High Council of State, Khaled Al-Mashri, discussed, Monday, with the head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, Mr. Jan Kubis, the political situation in Libya and the latest developments on the electoral process.

 During the meeting, which was held at the council's headquarters in the capital, Tripoli, and in the presence of the first vice-president of the council, Masoud Obeid, Al-Mashri stressed the council's keenness to hold the elections on the specified date at the end of this year on agreed constitutional bases, in accordance with the constitutional declaration and the texts of the Libyan political agreement.

For his part, the UN envoy commended the High Council of State's serious steps and their compliance with the political agreement and the constitutional declaration, according to what was published by the Council's media office on its official website.

At the beginning of the meeting, the two sides discussed the results of the ministerial conference on the stability of Libya, which was recently held in Tripoli, and stressed the need to support it in order to achieve security and stability in the country.

 At the end of the meeting, the two sides agreed to continue consultations to reach consensus on election laws between the two councils, and to make every effort to solve the obstacles that prevent the elections from being held on time.

The meeting was attended by the Chairman of the Council's Financial Affairs Committee, Bashir Al-Hosh, the Chairman of the Council's Legal Affairs Committee, Adel Karmos, and the Chairman of the Anti-Corruption Committee, Mohamed Abu Sneina.
