Cairo, October 9, 2021 (LANA) - The Arab League welcomed the results of the meeting of the joint military committee in Geneva, which culminated in the approval of an action plan to remove all mercenaries, foreign fighters and foreign forces from Libyan territory.

An official source in the General Secretariat of the League praised, in a statement, the tireless and continuous efforts of the Joint Military Committee, to establish the ceasefire agreement since its signing in October last year, and its keenness to implement all its provisions, because it was convinced of the direct impact of this on continuing the ongoing political process since the adoption of the dialogue forum. The political roadmap for the "preliminary phase for a comprehensive solution", which would allow presidential and legislative elections to be held in normal conditions, and thus to ensure the results of these elections.

The source called on all international and regional partners to cooperate and provide support for the implementation of this plan, and the rest of the entitlements related to the ceasefire agreement, foremost of which is the unification of the military institution and the start of the disarmament, demobilization and reintegration of armed groups.

The source also stressed that the signing and implementation of the plan would fully consolidate Libya's sovereignty and ensure its security and territorial integrity, which was called for by the decisions of the Council of the League of Arab States.

Yesterday, Friday, the "5 + 5" Joint Military Committee concluded its meetings in Geneva, by approving the plan for the mercenaries' exit from the country.

In its final statement, the committee said that it had prepared and approved a plan of action to remove all mercenaries, foreign fighters and foreign forces from Libyan territory in a gradual, balanced and simultaneous manner.

The committee stressed the necessity of the readiness of the Libyan monitoring mechanism of the ceasefire agreement, especially the presence of the international observers of the United Nations in Libya before starting the implementation of the plan.

The Military Committee also discussed, during its meetings, which were characterized by the national spirit and responsibility - according to the statement's description - the mechanisms for implementing the plan to remove all mercenaries, foreign fighters and foreign forces from Libyan territory.

The committee agreed to communicate with relevant local and international parties to support the implementation of this plan and to respect Libyan sovereignty.
