Rome, October 08, 2021 (LANA) - The commander of the European (IRNI) operation to monitor the implementation of the arms embargo imposed on Libya, Admiral “Stefano Torquetto” stated that the mission is part of a process that includes political, military, economic and humanitarian tracks that were agreed upon at the Berlin 1 Conference at the beginning of 2020

Torquetto said in a statement to the Italian Agency Nova, Thursday, that this path represents the European approach to resolving the long-standing conflict in Libya by implementing the arms embargo and contributing to the implementation of United Nations measures to prevent the illegal export of oil from Libya and to combat human trafficking and smuggling activities.

He added that operation IRNI will continue to work to build capacity and train the Libyan Coast Guard and ensure stability and security in the central Mediterranean, and to remain at the same distance from all concerned parties.
