Libyan Communications Holding Company announces completion of giant Silvium submarine cable project linking Libya with Greece.

 Tripoli, 7 October, 2021 (Lana) – Libyan International Telecommunication Company, one of the subsidiary companies of the Telecom Holding Company, announced completion of the Silvium submarine cable development project, linking Libya with Greece.

 The project is wholly owned by the Libyan state, as part of the strategic plan of the holding company that paves the way for a comprehensive digital transformation of the country.

The company stated on its website that "the capacity of the giant Silvium project in the field of communications linking Libya with Greece is 70 gigabytes, and by completing the project, the total capacity of the Internet will be increased to 370 gigabytes, and thus high internet capacities will be provided to the cities of the eastern region."

 As part of this huge project, the Libyan International Telecommunication Company opened its operating and control room, to support the operation and equipping of the Network Monitoring Center NOC/OSS, through 8 main systems for operations and maintenance.

Faisal Qurqab, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Telecom Holding Company stated: "The completion of this project is a great success for the telecommunications sector and the strengthening of Libya's strategic role regionally, and a key supporter of the country's digital transformation plan that the holding company seeks to achieve during the coming period”.

 Qarqab saluted the technicians of the Libyan International telecommunication Company for their efforts to complete this huge project.

 It is noteworthy that the International Telecommunication Company has worked on developing the infrastructure of Libyan international communications and building it with the best standards, by working to exploit Libya's strategic location, expand regionally and gradually increase the proportion of its contribution to the cables linking Libya to the world, where the proportion of its contribution to the submarine cable linking Libya with Europe and India to 7 % and 50 % for the cable linking Libya with Italy, and the contribution rate reached 100 % in the Silvium submarine cable, which is wholly owned by the Libyan state.
