Chairman of the Presidential Council (Mohamed Al-Mnifi), during his meeting with the Russian Foreign Minister in New York, stresses the importance of the Russian role in the success of the political process and stability in Libya.

 New York, September 25, 2021 (LANA) - The President of the Presidential Council, "Mohamed Al-Mnifi," met Friday in New York, the head of the Russian delegation to the meeting of the United Nations General Assembly, Minister of Foreign Affairs, "Sergei Lavrov", to discuss the latest developments in the situation in Libya.

During the meeting, Mnifi commended the historical relations between the two friendly countries, Libya and Russia, stressing the need to work to strengthen them, in various fields, pointing to the importance of the Russian role in the success of the political process and stability in Libya.

Lavrov praised the council's recent steps to release a number of prisoners, within the framework of the national reconciliation project announced by the President of the Presidential Council on September 6.

The Russian minister stressed the need for the simultaneous withdrawal of mercenaries and foreign forces from Libya, and to move forward with the reconciliation project to ensure that the elections are held on time.

The Russian Foreign Minister also expressed his support for political efforts aimed at achieving stability in Libya, praising the role of the Presidential Council in leading national reconciliation and internal consensus.
