HCS Proposes Holding Parliamentary Elections and Delaying Presidential Election.

Pulbished on:

Tripoli, 20 September 2021(Lana) The President of the High Council of State Khalid Al Meshri has unveiled a roadmap which calls for holding parliamentary elections at the end of the year, and delaying the presidential elections until after the referendum on the constitution.

In a press Conference in Tripoli on Monday, Al Meshri said ‘the roadmap which we propose calls for legislative elections on Dec. 24, and this is possible.’

‘After holding the these elections, and all bodies, which bear responsibility for lack of consensus in the last period ‘the House of Representatives and the High Council of State’, there will a new elected parliament, which is required to put forward a draft constitution to the vote within a year of its inception, he added.

‘The High Council of State sees that holding presidential elections at this juncture will not produce stability, because elections are not the goal in itself, rather the goal is initiating stability in the country’ Al Meshri said.
