Minister of Interior assures US ambassador to Libya that about thirty-five thousand members of police force will be prepared to secure the elections.

TRIPOLI, 25 August, 2021 (Lana) - Interior Minister Khaled Mazen discussed with the US ambassador and special envoy to Libya, Richard Norland the plans and programmes carried out by the ministry to secure the upcoming electoral benefits, and aspects of cooperation between the two countries, especially in the security aspect.

During the closed-circuit television meeting, the minister confirmed that the ministry had prepared nearly thirty-five thousand members of the police to secure the elections, and had prepared training courses to raise their efficiency in the field of electoral security.

The Minister also touched on the issue of illegal immigration and the resulting economic burdens, stressing that the Libyan state did not hesitate to provide aid to migrants, as it is a humanitarian issue. The Minister of Interior made it clear that Libya is not the only victim of this phenomenon, indicating the willingness of the Libyan side to cooperate in this file. For his part, the US ambassador expressed his country's readiness to cooperate with the Ministry of Interior and to reactivate previously signed agreements between the two countries, which are concerned with raising the capabilities of the ministry's agencies and personnel. The US ambassador stressed that work is continuing in many security fields. The meeting was attended by the director of the Department of Relations and Cooperation, Brig Gen "Salah al-Din bin Suleiman" and the head of the Follow-up and Performance Evaluation Office, Brig Gen "Sulaiman al-Baroni.
