WASHINGTON, 30 June, 2021 (Lana) - The United States confirmed that it and its international partners fully support the holding of presidential and parliamentary elections on time, which will enable Libyans to choose their leaders and restore their sovereignty after years of civil conflict and economic turmoil.
This came in the statement issued by National Security Adviser, Jake Sullivan about the completion of preparations for the Libyan elections, which the White House posted on its website via the international information network.
In his statement, Sullivan said: “I commend the work of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF), as its members meet in Geneva this week to finalize preparations for Libya to hold historic national elections on December 24, 2021. As the Berlin II Conference affirmed, the United States stands together with our Libyan and international partners, in full support for holding presidential and parliamentary elections on time that will enable Libyans to choose their own leaders and re-establish their sovereignty after years of civil strife and economic upheaval”.
The statement pointed out that (the positive atmosphere and spirit of compromise in which what he called the "Libyan Political Dialogue Forum" is meeting, with the active facilitation of the United Nations, to adopt the necessary constitutional and legislative arrangements needed for the elections. We support the Libyan people as they chart a path towards a more stable, prosperous and secure future."
