In a message on the occasion of Eid al-Adha: Jan Kubis calls on Libyan decision-makers and institutions to work together in the spirit of unity, patriotism and responsibility to put the interests of the people above narrow interests.

Tripoli, July 21, 2021 (LANA) - The Special Envoy of the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, Jan Kubis, expressed his warmest wishes to the Libyan people and government on the occasion of Eid Al-Adha.

“On behalf of the entire United Nations family in Libya, I wish you all, your loved ones and families a peaceful and happy holiday full of hope for a better future,” the Special Envoy said in a message on the occasion.

Kubis urged all Libyan leaders and institutions to invoke the message of peace, sympathy and reconciliation symbolized by this occasion in order to end the continuing divisions in the country and put an end to the hardships that the Libyan people are still enduring.

The UN envoy called on all decision-makers and key Libyan institutions to preserve what has been achieved since the signing of the ceasefire agreement in October 2020 and to work together in the spirit of unity, patriotism, responsibility and sharing it in placing the well-being and interests of the Libyan people above narrow interests.

Kubis said in his message (I hope that you will be inspired by the spirit of harmony embodied on this occasion to intensify your efforts to continue the peace process by enabling the holding of national elections on December 24, 2021).
