Military Committee 5+5 Cites Security Reasons for Delay of Opening of Coastal Highway.

Sirte, 22 June 2021(Lana) The Military Committee 5+5, meeting in Sirte, has cited the delay of re-opening the coastal highway for reasons associated with security concerns which, it said, became evident following the field visit the Committee conducted to area along with representatives of the UN Support Mission in Libya UNSMIL.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the Committee said it has conducted a visit to a number of locations on the highway accompanied by UNSMIL representatives, during which it said it became clear that the highway was in need for maintenance work, and securing before it could be finally re-opened.

The Committee said it was in contact with the company which said it was prepared to do the maintenance work, to put in place the security arrangements and the machinery and equipment needed to do the job.
