Salvini: I Asked the Prime Minister to Intervene to Halt Migrant Influx.

Rome, 17 June 2021(Lana) Leader of Northern League, a partner in the ruling coalition Matteo Salvini has said that he had asked the Prime Minister Mario Draghi to intervene to stop the migrant boats across the Mediterranean to southern coasts of the country.

The Italian Aki news agency quoted Salvini as saying, after a meeting he held with Draghi on Thursday, that he had asked Draghi and the competent minister to intervene, indicating that the scale of the migrant flow had tripled compared tolast year. More than 18000 migrants have already arrived in spite of the Covid 19, he said.

Salvini stressed that it was a security and social problem, and that Italy could not be a destination for traffickers and illegal arrivals.

‘We need a serious intervention, we do not think of a migrant landing summer, he said.
