Italian Interior Minister Meets UN Special Envoy to Libya.

Rome, 12 May 2021(Lana) Italian Interior Minister Luciana Lamorgese and UN Special Envoy to Libya Jan Kopis on Wednesday exchanged viewpoints on the current security situation in Libya, and prospects of working with the Government of National Unity led by Abdul Hamid Al Dbeiba.

The Italian Aki news agency quoted a statement by the Interior Ministry as saying ‘the Interior Minister expressed to the UN Envoy Italy’s commitment to establish security in Libya and to enhance the Government capabilities to protect its land and Sea borders.

Lamorgese refreshed the UN Envoy of the content of talks she held in Tripoli recently, stressing the need for the EU to participate more vigorously in managing the irregular migration issue which has roots outside Libya being a transit country.

She said she believed that the bigger engagement by the EU with Libya in managing the migration issue also goes through valuable activity in the forefront lines of the UN agencies, the UNHCR and the IOM revered for efficiency, credibility and expertise.
