Malta Foreign Minister: Libya not Only Geo-political Reality and Oil and Migration Issue but Sovereign State in First Place.

Valetta, 11 May 201(Lana) GNU Foreign Minister Najla Al Mangoush held talks in Malta with her Counterpart Evarist Bartolo on her first visit to the Mediterranean Island. The talks focused on the outcome of the visit by the Maltese delegation led by Prime Minister Robert Obela to Libya last month.

According to the Maltese Foreign Ministry official SMS page the Maltese Minister stressed that Libya was more than an issue of oil and irregular migration. It is a sovereign country with a population of 7 million who still suffer from shortages in electricity, water and other basic needs, he said.

Malta will continue to work towards restoring peace and stability to Libya and will continue to be a bridge between Libya and Europe to achieve peace and security in Libya, which will contribute to enchantment of peace and security in the Mediterranean and Europe, he added.

According to the Maltese Ministry the two sides have agreed securing and protecting borders constitute a priority, not only with respect to irregular migration but to Libya’s national security.

The Ministry indicated that Maltese Ministers of Finance and Employment who joined the meeting, asserted the importance or resuming flights between Libya and Malta to encourage trade and investment in the two countries.

They spoke about historical links between the two countries, expressing their commitment to support Maltese companies in Libya, facilitate new investments which will benefit both Libya and Malta as it prepares to open new consulates in Benghazi and Misrata.
