Pulbished on:

Brussels, May 6, 2021 (LANA) - Media sources in the European Union said that the Secretary-General of NATO, Jans Stoltenberg, is participating in a part of the meeting of European ministers, where the discussion will focus on the need to find an agreement for cooperation between the NATO (Sea Garden) mission and the European IRINI at the Mediterranean.

It is worth noting that the European Union launched the mission of IRINI to monitor the implementation of the arms embargo on Libya, according to what was announced by the Foreign Minister of the bloc Josep Borrell on May 7, 2020, where Borrell said at the time: The process (shows the commitment of the European Union to bring peace to Libya, even while it is Member States fighting, Corona Pandemic).

"IRINI" replaces the "Sophia" mission, which was launched by the European Union in 2015, but "IRINI", on the contrary, is only tasked with monitoring the arms embargo without interfering with illegal immigration and human trafficking.
