Libya, Sudan and Niger ISSUE Joint Statement on Events in Chad.

Tripoli, 22 April 2021(Lana) Leaders of Libya, Sudan and Niger on Thursday issued a joint statement on the situation in Chad in which they said they were following with great attention development of events in the neighboring country.

The leaders praised in a joint statement over the situation in Chad, the key role which the late President Deby played in maintaining peace and security, and his contribution to combating terror groups.

They called for the country’s interests to be put first, and for a spirit of responsibility to be adopted in order to preserve peace and security in the region, and voiced their commitment to the unity and territorial integrity of Chad.

The Leaders also called for a national dialogue to be conducted between various parties, away from use of force and threatening.

They reiterated their commitment to strengthening efforts in support of security cooperation, border control and establishment of peace, stability and good neighborliness.

They also called for re-activation of the 2018 Agreement on security and border control signed by Libya, Sudan, Chad and Niger.

The Leaders  called on the AU Peace and Security Council to hold an emergency session to discuss steps to be taken to diffuse tension in the region.
