TRIPOLI, April 22, 2021 (LANA) - The United Nations Support Mission in Libya has expressed its concern about the recent halt in oil production at Marsa Al Hriga and over indications that further closures may be imminent.

In a statement issued today, Thursday, the mission stressed the need to continue producing oil, as well as maintaining the independence and neutrality of the National Oil Corporation, a fundamental and vital pillar of economic, social and political stability in Libya.

The mission said in its statement that all parties must ensure that the National Oil Corporation remains an independent and technocratic institution with sufficient resources, and that it ensures the achievement of transparent and fair management of resources, as stipulated in the roadmap approved by the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum with the aim of combating corruption.

The UN mission called on the government to improve the provision of basic services to the Libyan people, noting that Libya has just emerged from a conflict that has cost it a lot, and there are many urgent needs that must be met to improve the quality of life of Libyans across the country.
