Members of the US Congress, urging President Biden and his administration to force the mercenaries out of Libya.

Washington, April 9, 2021 (LANA) - Eight members of the US Congress called on President Joseph Biden's administration to (exercise all the necessary influence to persuade or force foreign mercenaries to leave Libyan lands, in accordance with the terms of the ceasefire agreement) signed in Geneva on October 23, 2020, and (the use of strict bilateral and multilateral diplomacy that ensures that outside powers - including allies and partners of the United States - respect the arms embargo imposed by the United Nations) on Libya.

The eight signatories to the letter, who are constantly involved in drafting US policy towards Libya, and directed it to Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, encouraged the US administration to (deploy all diplomatic and economic tools to help the newly formed National Unity Government succeed in its central tasks), including: ( Implement the ceasefire signed on October 23, 2020, start the national reconciliation process, meet the needs of the Libyan people, unify Libyan institutions, and prepare Libya for free and fair presidential and parliamentary elections as scheduled on December 24, 2021).

The eight members also called on the US authorities to (accelerate assessments of the feasibility of returning the US embassy safely to Libya, as soon as security conditions permit, and to make use of the set of tools at their disposal to fight corruption, improve governance, public services and economic recovery in Libya, which will increase the chances of achieving sustainable peace).
