The Women Support Unit of the High National Commission organizes a round table on enhancing the participation of women in the electoral process.

Tripoli, March 21, 2021 (LANA) - The Women Support Unit of the High National Elections Commission (HNEC) organized a round table, Sunday morning, on “Promoting the Participation of Women in the Electoral Process”.

During this table, the challenges facing Libyan women to participate in the elections, the reasons resulting from the reluctance of women to participate in the elections, and the expected proposals from their role to increase the rate of women's participation in the elections were discussed.

The session, which was held at the headquarters of the General Administration of the High Commissioner in Tripoli, targeted members of the Women's Union, and a number of associations and human rights organizations on women.

 During her speech, a member of the Council of the Women’s Support Unit, Rabab Haleb, reviewed the unit’s goals and aspirations in overcoming the difficulties facing women’s political participation, and with regard to voter registration for Libyan women married to non-Libyans.

 She said that she contacted the Civil Status Authority regarding the restriction imposed on the election and promised us that they would have the registration document for Libyan women married to non-Libyans, who are about 7,000 thousand registered with their data in the registration number and the national number soon.
