Lavrov and Kubis, stress on the need for parliament to give confidence to the national unity government.

Tripoli, March 5, 2021 (LANA) - The head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, Jan Kubis, discussed in Moscow on Thursday with the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov a number of issues related to political, security and economic developments in Libya, including ways to move forward in implementing the political roadmap and the ceasefire agreement.

A statement of the mission published on its official website said, that Kubis stressed during his meeting Thursday with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his deputy, Mikhail Bogdanov, in Moscow, the urgent need to move forward in forming a unified transitional government capable of meeting the needs of the Libyan people and preparing the country to hold national elections next December.

During their meeting, the two sides urged the House of Representatives to convene on the date scheduled on March 8th, to deliberate on granting confidence to the national unity government.

For his part, Lavrov and his deputy Bogdanov renewed Russia's support for the efforts of the United Nations in Libya aimed at helping the Libyan people in their quest for a stable, prosperous, sovereign and united Libya, according to the mission statement.

The United Nations Support Mission in Libya said that Kubis' transfer to Russia comes as part of his continuous efforts to mobilize support for the three-track Libyan-Libyan dialogue process, noting that he will continue his meetings tomorrow in Moscow, where he will also meet with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Vershinin Vasilievich and other high-level officials.
