UN mission clarifies about the team mission that arrived in Libya.

Tripoli, 4 March 2021 (LANA) - The United Nations Support Mission in Libya, UNSMIL, confirmed the arrival of a small UN team to Libya to participate in monitoring the ceasefire agreement.

The mission said in a statement today, Thursday, that in accordance with the recommendation of the Secretary-General of the United Nations contained in his report dated December 29, 2020, and after the request of the Security Council on February 4, the United Nations sent a small advance team to Libya earlier yesterday.

The mission clarified in its statement, which was published on its official page, that the mission of this advance team is to help advance the planning process undertaken by the United Nations, in close consultation with the Joint Military Committee (5 + 5), and to provide the necessary basis for support that can be expanded by the United Nations to a monitoring mechanism of the ceasefire led and owned by the Libyans.

The mission indicated that the team will also work to prepare the necessary information for the special report requested by the Security Council, which the team will submit with its findings to the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General, the head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, through the Assistant Secretary-General, the mission coordinator.
