Tripoli, 3 March, 2021 (Lana) - The United Nations Support Mission in Libya announced, Tuesday, that the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, Jan Kubis, continues to mobilize national and international support to push the Libyan dialogue process on its three tracks. According to the mission in a statement, on February 25, Special Envoy Kubis briefed the official high-level meeting of the International Follow-up Committee on Libya on the progress made in the three-track dialogue and on the ongoing efforts made by the United Nations to advance the implementation of the Road Map, approved by the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum.  

Participants in the International Follow-up Committee on Libya affirmed their countries' full support for the United Nations Support Mission in Libya and its leadership in facilitating international efforts to help Libyans find solutions to their problems in the hands of the Libyans themselves. They also stressed the need to maintain the momentum of the Libyan political process and push for the formation of a comprehensive and unified interim government, and for its approval by the House of Representatives.

The International Follow-up Committee renewed its support for the Joint Military Committee (5 + 5) in pushing for the implementation of the ceasefire agreement signed on October 23, 2020, the Special Envoy stressed the importance of the international community fulfilling its obligations, including by removing foreign fighters and mercenaries and respecting the arms embargo.  In a related context, the Special Envoy, Jan Kubisch, attended the meeting of the political working group emanating from the Berlin process, where the session included two briefings presented by the new President of the Presidential Council, Muhammad Al-Manfi, and the head of the National Unity Government, Abdul Hamid Al-Dabaiba.

 The Special Envoy also held separate telephone conversations with the Prime Minister of the National Unity Government, Abdul Hamid al-Dabaiba, and with the Speaker of the House of Representatives meeting in Tobruk, Aqila Saleh.

The UN envoy stressed the importance of moving forward with holding an official session of the House of Representatives on March 8 to discuss the vote on granting confidence to the government that will be proposed by the Prime Minister-designate, and encouraged the Prime Minister-designate to present the cabinet formation quickly.

Over the past few days, the Special Envoy continued his continuous efforts to mobilize regional and international support for the Libyan dialogue process that the Libyans are undertaking and owning in its three tracks: security, military, political, financial and economic, in order to accelerate the pace of implementation of the roadmap approved by the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum and the ceasefire agreement. fire. Kubis visited Italy and Turkey, where he met with the Italian Foreign Minister Logy Di Maio and the Turkish Minister Mevlüt Çavuşolu.
