Tripoli, 4 February, 2021 (Lana) - The United Nations Support Mission in Libya welcomed the holding of the 7th round of talks of the Joint Military Committee (5 + 5) at its headquarters in Sirte, from 4 to 7 February to continue planning for the implementation of the ceasefire agreement signed on October 23, 2020 in Geneva.

The mission stated on its official website that the meeting of the Joint Military Committee will focus on expediting the opening of the coastal road in order to enable the safe passage of citizens, goods and humanitarian aid, based on the progress made in the previous rounds of the committee talks.

It explained that for this purpose, demining experts from both sides will attend the meeting, in addition to experts from UNSMIL, to provide technical support and discuss ways to proceed with the removal of mines and remnants of war in the areas under each party's control.

The Joint Military Committee will also finalize its discussions with the United Nations Support Mission in Libya on the requirements for sending UN observers to support the ceasefire monitoring and verification mechanism.
