Tripoli,  27 January , 2021 (Lana)- The Foreign Minister of the Government of National Accord ,Mohamed Taher Siala, reiterated Libya's firm position in support of the united African position, which emphasizes Africa's permanent representation in the UN Security Council, according to the Ezulwini Consensus and the Sirte Declaration.

He voiced this stance during a meeting of the 10-member African Union's Committee on Security Council Reform, which was held on Wednesday, chaired by Sierra Leone's Foreign Minister, Mrs Nabila Tunis, and the participation of the committee's member states.

In Libya's speech, Siala stressed the importance of Africa's active participation in regional and international events through the reform of the UN Security Council. He stressed that those who have the right to represent Africa in the Security Council in the permanent membership of the UN Security Council are within the competence of the African Union, while rejecting any other fragmented solutions.

The meeting reviewed the recommendations of the African Summit in February 2020 on the activities of the committee as well as discussing ways to maintain the momentum of the African position in the government negotiations.

The Committee of 10 was formed in 2005 and is composed of 10 African countries with the task of strengthening and supporting the united African position in the ongoing inter-government negotiations on the reform of the United Nations system.
