Tripoli, 24 January, 2021 (Lana) - The National Committee for Human Rights in Libya announced its solidarity with the High Judicial Council over the outcomes of the political dialogues in Abu Zanika, Morocco.

The Libyan judiciary is the only institution that has remained united during this difficult historical phase that Libya is going through, the committee added in a statement on its official Facebook page, Sunday,

In its statement, the committee stated that the judiciary is the safety valve to guarantee the unity of the judicial authority, represented by the High Judicial Council, the Supreme Court, the Office of the Attorney General, the courts of various degrees, and the Public Prosecution apparatus.

The committee affirmed that interference in the affairs of the judicial authority is unacceptable in form and substance, and an unpleasant practice that contradicts the principle of separation of powers and the principle of independence of the judiciary, and does not contribute to building the state of law and institutions that Libyans aspire to.

The National Human Rights Committee expressed its profound indignation of the logic of political, regional and tribal quotas, in which the political parties are trying to involve the judiciary.

It also expressed its rejection of the outcomes of what was stated in the Moroccan Abu zanika understandings regarding the judiciary, and considers this an interference and a violation of the sovereignty and independence of the judiciary, and an affront to the independence and prestige of the Libyan judiciary institution.

The National Committee for Human Rights in Libya affirmed its full support and solidarity for the Libyan judicial authority to ensure its independence and all its organs to ensure the protection of rights and freedoms and in a manner that contributes to establishing the foundations of justice and stability in Libya. The Supreme Judicial Council announced, Sunday, its rejection of the announcement by the interlocutors in Abu Zneika regarding the regional allocation of judicial authority positions.

The High Judicial Council added in a statement that this regional quota system is an interference and a violation of the independence and impartiality of the judiciary.

The Council warned the interlocutors to take what is necessary to stop any prejudice to the entity of the judiciary, stressing that what happened in Abu Znika is an attempt to strike the coherent judicial fabric in the east, west and south.

The High Judicial Council stated that the judiciary is the only elected and unified authority in various parts of Libya, and the regional quota system will undermine the unity and independence of the judiciary.
