The United Nations warns of a possible humanitarian catastrophe in Libya in the event of the outbreak of military operations in Sirte.

Tripoli, 15 October 2020 (LANA) - The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs has expressed concern about the fragile situation and the potential humanitarian catastrophe in Libya in the event that the current escalation and mobilization around Sirte develops into military operations. United Nations spokesman Stephane Dujarric, citing the UN office, said that the lives of more than 125,000 people in and around Sirte are in great danger. Dujarric indicated, in the daily press conference, that the number of cases of Covid-19 disease has increased dramatically throughout Libya, with nearly 45,000 cases and 656 deaths confirmed, as of Tuesday. Dujarric said health systems have been affected by the closure of health facilities, due to lack of resources and sickness of staff. In addition, fuel shortages and power cuts have affected the performance of health services, and a quick survey, recently conducted in the capital, Tripoli, found that 54 health facilities are currently operating out of 92 that were operating throughout the country before the pandemic. ...(LANA) ...
