President of Presidency Council holds talks with Maltese Prime Minister.

Tripoli, 6 July 2020 (Lana) President of Presidency Council, Fayez Asseraj held talks Monday in Valletta with the Maltese Prime Minister, Robert Abela. The talks covered developments in Libya and several files on joint cooperation. The meeting held at the Maltese Prime Minister's Office was attended by Foreign Minister, Mohamed Siala, Minister of Interior, Fathi Bashagha, Director of Foreign Investment Company, Salem Hanish, And Commander of Coast Guard. For the Maltese side besides the Prime Minister it was attended by Foreign and interior ministers and other Maltese Government senior figures. The Maltese Prime minister welcomed the Libyan delegation headed by President Asseraj, underscoring the distinctive relations between the two countries and the desire of his country to bolster bilateral relations and cooperation. The President Asseraj on his part thanked Malta for its support to the GNA Government and its keen desire for security and stability of Libya. He said the visit is in line with the continuous consultations and coordination between the two countries on issues of common interest and complete talks held last May in Tripoli. They also discussed practical steps to operationalize cooperation programs in political, economic and security fields and joint investment opportunities. They also touched on the MoU signed by both countries on the fight against illegal immigration. Following the talks, the President and Maltese Prime Minister opened the Centre for joint coordination on illegal immigration in the capital Valletta. Then, President Asseraj visited the Maltese President, George Vella, whom he brief on the Libyan developments and Libyans desire for civil democratic state through a political track leading to elections without the current maneuvers designed to prolong the transitional phase for personal interest. In his part the Maltese President asserted his country's support to the UN efforts designed to go back to the political track so the Libyans could reach a consensus on the solution without foreign interferences' to safeguard the independence, territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Libyan State. The President arrived in Valletta this morning in a brief working visit to Malta. =Lana=
